For those who really want to escape it all then mid Wales is the place to go. Because of the vast mountain ranges in this area much of it is uninhabitable. However this does not stop it from being a beautiful place to visit.
The Cambrian Mountain range dominates and because it is often over looked due to the Snowdonian and Brecon Beacon ranges it is a secret just waiting to be discovered. Fish in one of the many reservoirs and rivers or bike up some of the challenging trails across the range.
Further to the east the towns of Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells both provide amenities for your day in the mountains. From here you can also travel to the Black Mountains in the South East or visit the neighbouring English border

5. The Space Guard Centre Running conducted tours from 2pm – 4pm all year round; this wonderful astronomical observatory boasts the biggest telescope in Wales and is the only observatory in the UK addressing the hazard of Near Earth Objects
6. Borth Borth beach is an blue flag award-winning beach popular with ailboard enthusiasts and families.
7. Llywernog Silver-Lead Mine Llywernog is an authentic 18th century silver ine. A visit to Llywernog offers a fascinating insight into life nearly 200 years ago. New for 2010 are tours of the mine and old buildings!
8. Lon Teifi Running between Aberystwyth and Fishguard this 98 mile cycle route follows country lanes and minor roads along the valley of the River Teifi.
9. Five Saints Riding and Trekking Centre With direct access to a variety of terrain from forestry track to mountain moors this is a fantastic place to visit for keen horse riders. 01558 650580

11. Severn Way The Severn Way is Britain’s longest riverside walk covering 210 miles and tracing the River Severn.12. Gwenffrwd Dinas Enjoy a walk through ancient alder and oak woodland and fast-flowing, spectacular rivers at Gwenffrwd Dinas, a RSPB reserve in the heart of Mid Wales. Look out for flycatchers, redstarts, common sandpipers, dippers and grey wagtails13. Hafen Forest Managed by the Forestry commission and home to Bronze Age copper and lead mines this 40 square kilometre forest is a haven for wildlife. Take the Cascades Trail and look out for The Red Kite.14. The Elan Valley In total the Elan Estate attracts more than 400,000 visitors annually. Many people come to enjoy the peace and quiet, some come for the wildlife and scenery, whilst others take part in more active pursuits. There is something for everyone, walking routes, cycling, horse riding, birdwatching, fishing, water sports, rock climbing and paragliding!15. The Elan Valley Trail The Elan Valley Trail is a 25 mile cycle trail which originally formed part of an old railway line built during the construction of the Elan Valley Reservoirs. Running from Rhayader into the heart of the Elan Valley, this challenging route affords some excellent views around what is often referred to as the Lake District of Wales.16. Gigrin Farm – Red Kite Feeding Station Mid Wales has the greatest density and diversity of birds of prey in southern Britain. At Gigrin Farm you have the opportunity to see the red kits and buzzards feeding everyday.
Providing a 16 mile return journey through the beautiful welsh countryside, the Welshpool and Llanfair light railway operates a narrow gauge steam train service from Welshpool to Llanfair Caereinon.
18. Kerry Ridgeway This former drovers’ route, where cattle were taken from Wales to markets in England is the oldest road in Wales.19. Caer Drewyn This is an intriguing hill fort built over 2,500 years ago. It is one of the best preserved Iron Age hillforts in Wales with the dry stone wall and remains still visible today.
